About Us

Karly Delano, DVM, CVA

Dr. Karly Delano was born and raised riding horses in Southern California. She received a
Bachelors of Science degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and received
her veterinary degree from the School of Veterinary Medicine at UC Davis.

While completing her veterinary degree,
Dr. Delano was an extern at multiple equine
facilities, including Alamo Pintado Equine
Medical Center (Los Olivos, California),
Steinbeck Country Equine Clinic (Salinas,
California), Arizona Equine Medical Center
(Gilbert, Arizona), and New Bolton Center
(University of Pennsylvania).

During the summer of 2002, she was
accepted as a veterinary intern at Alaska
SeaLife Center, in Seward, Alaska, where
she aided in the capture and care of
stranded marine wildlife including seabirds,
stellar sea lions, harbor seals, and sea
otters.

 

In January 2007, Dr. Delano and her husband EJ moved to Amador County and opened
Amador Veterinary Services. Prior to practicing in Amador County, Dr. Delano worked
at a busy equine practice in Santa Cruz, California, with a focus on sport horse medicine
and a strong equine performance horse base, including dressage, endurance, western
performance and pleasure, and hunter/jumpers. Her medical interests include equine
ambulatory medicine, general equine health care and preventative medicine, ophthalmology,
and equine dentistry.

Dr. Delano is also a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist (CVA). She completed the Veterinary
Medical Acupuncture Program at Colorado State University and is liscensed to treat both
large and small animals.

Dr. Delano loves living in Amador County, and is looking forward to expanding the practice
to meet all of the large animal veterinary needs of the area.


Vicki Smalley, DVM

Dr. Vicki Smalley joined AVS in August 2007 as an associate practitioner. Before moving to
Sutter Creek, she resided in Davis, CA where she attended U.C. Davis receiving her Bachelor’s
of Science in Animal Science, and then her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. As a post-graduate
researcher in the Equine Viral Disease Laboratory (at UC Davis’ School of Veterinary Medicine)
she co-authored several research papers on Equine Viral Arteritis (EVA).

training and showing hunter/jumpers.
After high school, she attended Moorpark
College’s Equine Management and Training
Program where she received specialized
training in equine reproduction. During
veterinary school she completed multiple
externships in Southern California and
Lexington, Kentucky to further expand
her knowledge of equine reproduction.

Dr. Smalley has a love of equine
reproduction and plans to expand the
reproductive services provided by AVS
to keep pace with the ever-changing
world of equine reproduction. Her other
interests include herd health as well as
preventative and emergency medicine.
